Sturtevant (Benjamin F.) arrives in Boston.

(Dec.) Born in Maine in 1833, he comes to Boston seeking financial backing to develop shoe-making machinery. Sturtevant establishes a shoe manufacturing company in 1859* and goes on to revolutionize the shoe industry by inventing the pegging machine. Although he subsequently loses patent rights to this invention, he goes on to develop others, including those pioneering the manufacture of exhaust fans. He builds a home at 11 Revere Street in 1870.* Sturtevant subsequently builds a home at 11 Revere Street. He dies in Jamaica Plain on April 17, 1890, and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery.
